90 Plus Data Centralization Projects in Pipeline at NADRA

Posted by ProPakistani on March 2nd, 2010

90 Plus Data Centralization Projects in Pipeline at NADRA is a post from: ProPakistani

There are around or above 90 data centralization projects in the queue at NADRA, which will ultimately enable all the data of several dozen departments linked with you CNIC number, told us high level sources at NADRA.

Orientation of projects is yet to be made public; however, NADRA is planning big to make all the data of the country to be linked with a single key, that is, CNIC number.

It was told that data centralization of government and semi government department will run in phases, ultimately linking all the departments with each other.

Stated simply, in coming years your CNIC will serve as National Security Number in USA, while this single identity will serve for tracking your academic, health, driving license, family, insurance, internet and so many other records.

This is revolutionary in terms of digitizing all the records of Pakistan, however, with vertical and horizontal growth, added responsibility comes on NADRA’s shoulders for keeping the warehouse safe, secure and flawless.

After this centralization, along with countless other benefits, at least we can hope to vote to choose a leader by SMS using a registered SIM and that would save the money to treasury plus making the voting simple, fast, and clean from doubts. (Thanks to Jibran for tip)

Suggestions for Stopping Mobile Snatching Incidents

Posted by ProPakistani on March 2nd, 2010

Suggestions for Stopping Mobile Snatching Incidents is a post from: ProPakistani

The rise in mobile snatching incidents can be clearly seen in the surroundings. Its the easiest way of getting some petty cash at the end of the day.

Government has given one facility to help people block the IMEI and that’s it. Since then government is sleeping with putting a pillow under its head thinking that all the problems have been solved and its time for sweet dreams.

Well, this is simply just not IT!! Bear with me as I have to tell you the big WHY. Just by registering a complaint don’t solve the problem here. Restoring the phone and stopping people from IMEI resetting is the next thing to do.

How many cell phone users end up forgetting their cell phones, despite registering IMEI and all that – but not getting their stolen phones back? I would say 100 percent!

What government can do here is follow following steps..

  • Make IMEI blocking facility more robust. Add more phone lines.
  • Make stolen mobile database update quickly after the complaint lodge.
  • Add SMS based facility to check the mobile IMEI for stolen or theft status
  • Make sure that no shopkeeper changes IMEI numbers through computer software

Society’s Responsibility

  • If you are a shopkeeper, don’t Change IMEI of any phone
  • If you are a shopkeeper and deals in used cell phones, before closing a deal check updated list of IMEI numbers maintained with PTA

Shopkeeper social responsibility - I know, I know. But you have to come out of typical old mindset of “C’mon man! This is Pakistan” for once.

Well, whenever someone shows up at the mobile shop with a mobile to sell, the shopkeeper needs to check the database of “STOLEN MOBILES” first. If the mobile has been reported, then the shopkeeper needs to deny the customer. Or if their is facility then report the customer somehow.

If we all can join hands together, then we can beat this evil. But first, Join Hands!!!

Digital Cable TV System Hits Pakistan

Posted by ProPakistani on March 2nd, 2010

Digital Cable TV System Hits Pakistan is a post from: ProPakistani

PEMRA has recently formulated fee structure and rules for Digital Cable TV in Pakistan. Authority is envisioning the completion of enriched Digital Cable TV network deployment till 2015.

However, it looks that the rollout is somewhat mismanaged and mis-planned by all the cable operators. It is apparent that either they are fully prepared to go digital, or they are contented with their current analog cable TV system. This is why they are not advertising the new cable TV system, but tiny tickers on the screens.

What we mean by digital cable TV services?

By Digital cable TV we may mean broadcasting TV channels on digital signal. If we keep end user in mind then, it may mean cable TV channel that we watch in analog transmission will be more enhanced in picture quality and sound.

The digital cable TV system will facilitate customers with 200+ TV channels inclusive of 80 analog channels. Analog channels can be viewed without the digital receiver they will provide for using digital cable TV services.

What involves in digital cable TV package?

  • STB (Digital Cable Receiver)
  • RSA Cables, commonly called A/V cables for connecting with TV.
  • Remote with batteries
  • 10 or 30 Meter cable from tower to home.

Price:

Like Analog Cable TV, Digital Cable TV pricing has no standard as well. Common prices that are being offered by cable operators are:

  • First Time charges would be ranging from PKR 4000-5000 inclusive of STB’s price.
  • Per Month line rent charges would be PKR 300 / 400 per month, this will include analog and digital cable charges.

What you should know before buying Digital TV Package from cable tv operator?

  • Existing analog cable TV will remain in the same place, while for digital service separate connection will be installed.
  • Ask for RJ-7 or Higher Grade cable from your cable TV operator.
  • STB Manuals.
  • Ask your Cable operator for STB Return policy (if any), like if you change your area then will it possible for you to use same STB in different area. As this could be possibility that receiver is encrypted with different module and can only work in the same area where you are residing.

Conclusion:

No doubt, it is best step by PEMRA to take the ICT to the next level. Though, it is bit late as world is now experiencing more enhancements in the same arena.

While with that, PEMRA also need to provide guidelines to customer about the new services by publishing guidelines in media. This will not only help in educating customer about new services but will also help PEMRA and Cable TV operators in achieving customer trust about these services.

As just in my surroundings most of the people believe that digital TV Cable offered by local operators might get be blocked soon (As they don’t know it’s legally broadcasted) – along with there  are other fears in the mind of customer.
